Caring Moms

Help us create healthy and stable homes for women and children
Donate to Caring Moms

Our 2025 vision is to empower at least 40 low income and homeless moms to become self-sufficient: living in a stable and safe environment with affordable housing, with a new vision for the family. The plan provides many supportive services for the entire family which includes stable affordable housing, spiritual enrichment, health management, nutrition education, financial security through budget management and educational development using various technological and vocational career pathways.  The educational program assists moms transition into higher paying and stable jobs through career development in areas such as technology, health care, and office management; while helping teenagers and adolescents achieve their goals and enabling them to become productive adults.  The program promotes youths’ preventive awareness job opportunities and builds strength and character.

SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE US

We represent many families who are sheltered or unsheltered.  Some sees our situation as hopeless; but we are looking up at HOPE.   We do not have the basic cost-of-living income to afford basic housing and successfully take care of our children.   We do not have friends or family to lend that helping hand.   But with your help, imagine me

  • analyzing information as a Data Analyst

Our Approach

The Approach

About the Sheltered and Unsheltered

What do you know about low-income and homeless moms?  Do you have preconceived notions that they must have done something wrong or just did not know how to manage their finances?  The reasons for homelessness are VERY misunderstood.  Unplanned situations happen for many reasons; however, not everyone have family, friends, church, or a community network to help overcome unexpected difficulties.  Think about how many times you were faced with difficult challenges and how many people helped you.  Well, not everyone has that same degree of help.
In 2020, a total of 171,575 people in families experienced homelessness which is 30% of the total homeless population.  A family is defined as at least one adult and one child under the age of 18 years of age.  Ninety percent of families were sheltered which leaves only 16,667 people unsheltered.  The average family size was 3.2 people.
Georgia has
170,000 families with parents without postsecondary education
  • 80,000 families with parents without a high school diploma or GED
  • 500,000 families with parents with low incomes or without secure/stable employment
Lack resources
  • Lack of affordable housing in locations accessible to bus and rail transportation
  • Lack of stable jobs with higher wages
  • Lack of higher education or job training/experience
  • Lack of daily and immediate resources:  childcare, medical, phone, internet, family and friend's support
 Mom and children health issues
  • 1/3 higher chronic physical health conditions
  • 4 times increased rate in ulcers
  • Higher rates of asthma, anemia and hypertension
  • 4 times increased rate of sickness
  • higher rate of acute and chronic illnesses
  • 92% experienced physical and/or sexual abuse
Children have
  • 2 times increased hunger rate
  • 3 times the rate of emotional and behavioral issues
  • 52% higher depression rate
  • 40% attend 2 different schools
  • 28% attend 3 or more different schools
  • 16% are less proficient in literacy and math skills
  • 25% are less likely to graduate high school

Bobbi, we are so proud of you and how hard you have worked to change difficult life situations into a positive vision of hope for you and your family.  You stretched higher towards your goal and look you did it.  It is just amazing how hard you worked not only to become a better mother; but your life perspective of helping others has changed also. You are definitely an overcomer.   You chose not to give up and continued to press towards the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 3:13
